What were you up to this weekend? Healthy Teens loves to participate in community events that support the health and wellbeing of our youth. On Saturday we participated in the second annual "Your Voice Has Power" sexual assault and domestic violence awareness event, hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated at Booker Middle School. It was a really well run event with lots of great learning experiences and we cant wait to go back again. On Sunday we supported the Education Foundation of Sarasota's Ringling Bridge 5k/10k Run and Wellbeing Expo. We got to meet with some awesome community members and support a great organization and event. #HealthyTeens #postivehealthydecisions #funweekend

📣 Healthy Teens is thrilled to welcome another new board member📣 Emma Bittar joined the Teen Health Educator program in 2016, and served in a multitude of ways including representing Healthy Teens in Washington DC! She was recognized as the Young Spirit of Philanthropy by the Manatee Community Foundation in 2021. While at college, Emma served as a Young Adult Leader intern and then as a part-time project coordinator. Following her graduation from Tufts University, Emma returned to the area where she grew up, and was excited to join the Healthy Teens Board of Directors alongside her job with Sarasota County Government. Emma shares, "my experience with Healthy Teens as a Teen Health Educator and Young Adult Leader intern from 2016 to 2021 was fundamental for my growth as a person and professional. I truly would not be who I am without Healthy Teens and I am so excited to continue supporting youth education and development. Healthy Teens is a gem in our community!" This Sunday Healthy Teens will be at the Education Foundation of Sarasota County's Ringling Bridge 5k/10k and Wellness Expo. April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. No child should ever have to worry for their safety. They should be able to focus on other important things like school, homework and learning/developing into amazing adults. Join Healthy Teens as we show the community that their voice does matter! This Saturday Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (Lamba Omicron Omega Chapter) will be hosting the 2nd annual "Your Voice Matters" domestic violence and sexual assault awareness event, in partnership with Booker Middle School From 10am - 2pm women in the community can come together to take advantage of this unique opportunity. There will be self defense demos, raffles/giveaways, lots of local vendors and much more! Healthy Teens recognizes the important contribution of $2,000 from Florida Winefest and Auctions, generosity made possible by their 2024 events. Healthy Teens was also a recipient in 2023. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, their mission is clear: to provide crucial funding to qualified charitable organizations supporting disadvantaged children, youth, and families in the beautiful Sarasota and Manatee Counties. To date, $9.3 million dollars has been distributed to 98 charities. 📣 Community Partner Spotlight! 📣 North River Prevention Partners is a close partner of Healthy Teens. They are committed to their mission, to create community partnerships to implement universal substance abuse prevention strategies to promote the health and safety of individuals across the lifespan, especially among youth. Healthy Teens was honored to recognize NRPP with the Youth Empowerment Award (organization) at the Youth Health Awards 2023. The latest partnership between NRPP and Healthy Teens is a new pilot program called Reducing Negativity, Elevating Wellness (ReNEW). ReNEW provides youth with access to both trauma-informed peer education with Healthy Teens, and professional mental health resources provided by Telement Therapy. Executive Director, Ally Bergmann shares "North River Prevention Partners' mission is closely aligned with Health Teens'. For me, it is a privilege to work together to empower young people and strengthen our community. I admire the work that Healthy Teens does and truly enjoy collaborating on different projects and initiatives!" We are so excited to get to continue to support this amazing community partner in all the work that they do.
