BREAKING: NIST has released three self-guided online introductory courses on the SP 800-53 security and privacy control catalog, the SP 800-53A control assessment procedures, and the SP 800-53B control baselines. The courses provide a high-level overview of foundational security and privacy risk management concepts based directly on their respective NIST SPs. The new online introductory courses are between 45-60 minutes, available at no cost, and registration is not required. These publications provide the source material for the NIST CUI Series of publications, including SP 800-171, SP 800-171A, SP 800-172, and SP 800-172A. The new courses provide an excellent set of tutorials to better acquaint yourself with the foundations on which the CUI protections are based. 💭 What are the essential steps to take to successfully conduct a Capture-the-Flag (CTF) #cybersecurity exercise? This cybersecurity competition challenges participants to find and exploit vulnerabilities in a computer system in order to "capture a flag." The goal is to help participants develop and refine their skills in a controlled environment. Here are the steps to go through in a typical #CTFexercise: 🛡️ Planning and Preparation  This includes developing a scenario, setting objectives, and creating the virtual environment with all the necessary tools and resources for the participants. 🛡️ Kickoff and Rules  A kick-off event to introduce the exercise to participants and provide them with rules, objectives, and guidelines. 🛡️ Reconnaissance In this step, teams are exploring and analyzing the virtual environment to vulnerabilities and potential attack vectors. 🛡️ Exploitation It's time for developing and executing strategies to exploit identified vulnerabilities. This includes launching simulated attacks, deploying malware, or manipulating data. 🛡️ Defense  Teams also need to defend their own systems against attacks from other teams. This involves monitoring network traffic, analyzing logs, and implementing various defensive measures. 🛡️ Scoring and Evaluation During the exercise, organizers and instructors track the progress of team performance based on different criteria, such as number of flags captured. 💭 What are the examples of Digital Twins being extremely useful for improving an organization's cyber posture? 🛰 One of the examples we can think of comes from the University of Tartu. Their academic satellite project has successfully passed all space tests and is now live in space. The project, funded by the European Union and Enterprise Estonia, aims to understand the behavior of space satellites with respect to #cybersecurity. The challenge, though, is to track the satellite’s progress at such a massive scale, and that’s where digital twins are extremely useful. 🤝 With the help of CybExer Technologies, the satellite team was able to create the exact replica and test different scenarios before the launch. Cyber Security in space is a completely new topic that requires a lot of attention, and the role of digital twin technology is vital in this process of making our cyberspace safe.
